Blue Hen Conference Meet?

I seem to recall last year there was talk of trying to organize a Blue Hen Conference Meet for this year, something similar to how the Independent Schools have the DISC meet before states. I realize it would be tough to try to schedule that meet into the season, but I think it would be fun, especially in order to maybe have a smaller meet than states, and a chance to include more swimmers that wouldn't normally get to take part in a big championship meet. I understand that organizing meets can be a real headache, but I think there are enough people around the conference with experience running meets that it could happen, possibly at a site like McKean, Obviously not this year, but maybe in the near future. I think if each team donated volunteers and helped with planning, it could definitely work out.

  1. Jeff Brooks,
This is such an awesome idea. I am truely inspired. Swimming a conference meet would allow swimmers to swim fast and boost confidence going into States. Wow. Very Clever. Thanks for the blog. It was a good use of time.

  2. Glad to see you like the blog. In talking with Buddy Hurlock from The News Journal, he mentioned the fact that a lot of coaches might be hesitant to put in their strongest lineups in an effort to hide what they are thinking about doing for states. However, I think putting that gamesmanship aside, this meet would be a great "gear-up" for states, and give everyone a good preview of the racing that will come at states, as well as see how teams stack up with the different scoring system as at states.

  3. It is Difficult to run such a meet because teams that swim 16 dual meets would have to give up a dual in order to participate. that is more the stumbling block. with teams needing duals with diving to get idvers qualified, duals seem to be a priority.

  4. Yeah, but the times at a Conference meet would count too and there would obviously be diving there, sooo...? Not really sure what a dual meet offers that a Conference meet doesn't.

I don't know about having it at Mckean though, Jeff. We'd have swimmers like camped out in the parking lot. Mckean definitely is not large enough because the parents alone, take up the whole stands to themselves when we have meets there. Although, I do like snuggling at meets ; ] (not directed towards you, Jeff).

Buddy actually has a point for once though. Coaches would be very hesitant and I think it would also draw a lot of fans away from States. They'd figure, "Hey...I basically just watched a mini-States." If the meet was at a place like McKean too, where you didn't have to purchase a ticket, it would be absolutely mobbed with people.
